At November, 21st 1997 at 6.00 pm the first rolling on the new SMS hot plate mill was initiated successfully. At 7.00 pm the first slab with a thickness of 220 mm was rolled down on 120 mm in five stabs. Again, the bearings are lubricated by the well-tried REBS Turbolub technology with oil-air. Some days earlier rollings were simulated, that means drives, rolls, roller tables, screw-down gears and lubrication were tested, as if there was a plate in the mill.

Thus the new hot plate mill has passed its first test. Now the rolling sequences are increased step by step, while the automatic procedures and control systems are adjusted and optimized.
